How is naturopathy complementary?Naturopathy and pharmaceutical-based medicine often need to work hand in hand to get the best possible results. Sometimes I ask you to have blood tests to confirm your condition. At all times I need to know what medication you are on so I don’t prescribe you anything that will interfere with it.Doctors and naturopaths commonly work together in the area of diet and nutrition too. There are many conditions, such as irritable bowel for example, for which pharmaceutical-based approaches are not well suited and for which natural medicine has proved particularly effective. One of the most important cross-over areas concerns people who are on long-term pharmaceutical treatments. Some doctors have reduced or taken our patients off their arthritis, cholesterol or hypertension drugs after I have worked with their patients to change and improve their diets. That said, I will never recommend that you stop taking medicine that has been prescribed by your doctor; that is between you and them. |
